映画化されたのをきっかけに読んでみた。言いたい事や本音を心のひだの奥深くにしまい込んでやりとりをしているようなEtsukoとSachikoのやりとりがもどかしかった。映画も観たいな。 It was an interesting read…What I often recall after reading novels are the lines and details of the story. However, with this novel, what has not been written or mentioned lingered long in my mind. Ishiguro wouldn’t tell us all and leave a lot of spaces for us readers to come join into the novel and wander around to complete the vision. I imagined what could or would have happened and all of those obviously lead me to ponder upon how Nagasaki people lived and thought in that postwar reconstruction period. I like the quiet calm yet uneasy atmosphere Ishiguro’s novels withhold. I remember giving up on finish reading ‘Remains of the Day’, that my mom had in her bookshelf when I was a high schooler. May be it’s about time to give it a try once again.
