I like to think of the stories we engage with that are meaningful to us as forming a kind of patchwork blanket that is constantly invisibly wrapped around each one of us.
And when you engage with a piece of art or a piece of writing, another person's perspectives that become meaningful to you, you kind of pick that up and you stitch it into this patchwork you are forming of things that you continue to carry around with you that aren't visible to other people and that are just kind of like embedded into you. You hold them with you. You carry them.
They become part of how you move through the world. And there are some pieces of art, some stories, some music or whatever that become central pieces to this patchwork that you are making that you take the entire thing of and that becomes foundational to how you understand yourself and the world and all other future media that you engage with.
